8 Kinds of Smart: Identifying and Developing the Multiple Intelligences in young learners
Based on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, we are equipped to determine students’ strongest and weakest intelligence and can develop each type of smart in our learners. Through the … exploration of Math concepts and manipulatives, we will tap into ways of developing each type of “smart” in Mathematics – including “word smart”, “music smart” and “logic smart”.
About Jacqueline Burns
Inquisitive and analytical by nature, Jacqueline Burns is a problem solver who enjoys the complexity of teaching mathematics to diverse audiences of learners. She’s passionate about creating interactive environments that allow participants embrace the joys and also tackle the challenges of teaching and learning mathematics. Jacqueline’s work draws on more than two decades of teaching and supporting mathematics in schools that span the cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic, and ability spectra. Prior to moving overseas, she served as a Mathematics Specialist for a major metropolitan school district in the United States. Her work has been featured in From Standards to Rubrics in 6 Steps: Tools for Assessing Student Learning, K-8, and Jacqueline has presented on mathematics topics at schools and conferences and in the UAE and across the USA. One of Jacqueline’s strengths as a presenter is her ability to bridge her practical teaching experiences with an extensive knowledge of educational theory and research. Jacqueline holds a degree in education from Jackson State University, support credentials as a Teacher Support Specialist, and teacher certification in several subject areas including early childhood education and middle grades mathematics.
